Learn to Sail

A sailing adventure is one of the most exhilarating experiences of a lifetime, and we vow never to withhold it from anyone who has the inclination to give it a try.

Learning to sail begins at the Sheboygan Youth Sailing Club where sailors of all ages and skill levels are always welcome. The club provides the instructors and the sailing equipment. You provide the crew and plenty of enthusiasm. A typical beginning family course offers two classes per session for as little as $75. That’s right. You read it correctly. Only $75 for a family with a maximum of two adults and three children, and that even includes the boat. Even a better deal—the four-course family package allows you to choose which four courses your family would like to master for as little as $405. Yep. That still includes the boat! Most courses are 90 minutes to two hours long, making this opportunity a fantastic way to try something different with the kids on that family vacation. And best of all, they’ll think you’re super cool!

For more information about affordable sailing lessons, contact Sheboygan Youth Sailing Club or call (920) 459-0755. Once you learn to sail, consider joining US Sailing Center Sheboygan. Get access to a world-class facility on one of the finest harbors on the Great Lakes. Membership also provides experienced sailors free, unrestricted use of a modern, race-ready fleet of Sonar sailboats at any time other than blackout dates. Just one annual fee. No hourly rentals. It’s the perfect low-cost, time-saving alternative to private boat ownership! And it’s available to everyone!

With no initiation fees, and many discounts available, membership is more affordable than ever. The basic membership is $500/year. Sheboygan Yacht Club members will receive a $50 discount and anyone who has completed a US Sailing Basic Sailing Certification may take an additional $50 off the price of membership. In addition, volunteers will receive a $5/hour credit for each hour of time working on USSC-S events during the summer season they are a member (max. 30 hours). US Sailing Center Sheboygan

If you love competitive sailing, then a trip to Sheboygan’s US Sailing Center is in order. This facility is one of four US Olympic training centers in the nation, and it’s hosted many of the top match racers on the globe. Location is key to good match racing and right off the Sheboygan shores the conditions are just as ripe for sailing as they are on the ocean. Remember, Lake Michigan is so big, it’s better described as an inland sea. For spectators, the close proximity of racing conditions to the shoreline means a spectacular site from the comfort of a beach chair. Of course, if you’d rather be on the edge of the action, bring your motorboat and straddle the waves outside the course line. You can almost feel the tension of the strategy while watching the sailboats jostle for position. Make plans to visit Sheboygan during one of our sailing events.
