2011 ISAF Nations Cup Grand Final

One of the largest sailing events in the world took place off the Sheboygan Shores, September 13-18, 2011. After months of qualifying in Regional Finals held around the globe, world-class sailors meet in Sheboygan to capture the title for women’s and men’s matching racing at the Nations Cup Grand Final. Check out the daily recaps below!

US SAILING Center Sheboygan is one of four Olympic training centers for sailors in the US, and the only one on the Great Lakes. It’s a world-class facility fully equipped with a fleet of Olympic level sailboats. Sail Sheboygan won the bid for the 2011 Nations Cup Grand Final in March 2010 trumping Busan, Korea; Chicago, USA; and Gdynia, Poland.

The conditions in Sheboygan, as well as the shoreline, create the optimum situation for both sailing and sailing spectators. Sailing competitions are often held far from shore and are only viewable from spectator boats or video feeds. The conditions of Lake Michigan along Sheboygan’s vast shoreline allow racing to be viewed easily from the beaches, parks and Blue Harbor Resort & Spa located on South Pier, offering a free opportunity for spectators. The location of the Blue Harbor Resort also allows spectators to easily view the races from waterview rooms, balconies and public decks. Access to race viewing is unrestricted from public land locations or from private spectator boats. Additionally, free-access, real-time GPS tagging of vessels allows spectators to follow racing on the Internet.
