South Pier Labor Day Festival - 2008

The City of Sheboygan invites you to relax and enjoy your Labor Day weekend with us.  Click here to view our special weekend packages.

Stroll the riverfront promenade and boardwalk, enjoying the unique and eclectic Shanty shops, and and experience our casual and fine waterfront dining.

Relax along the soothing shores of Lake Michigan, walking our clean public beaches or enjoying a beverage at one of the many locations along the Riverfront and South Pier.

Join us for the second annual South Pier Labor Day Festival.

The event kicks off on Friday, August 29th at 4:00 p.m. and continues through Sunday, August 31st.  We have three days of fun and entertainment planned for you.

The South Pier Labor Day Festival is FREE to the public, and beverages and food will be available for purchase.  Click here to view the flier.

We are proud to welcome back Wenzel Amazements, the family-owned and operated carnival from Allenton, Wisconsin.  Children will experience the excitement and thrill of carnival rides in a secure and family-friendly location.  Take advantage of our family-friendly value and purchase a wristband.  During special hours, children will have the opportunity to ride unlimited times for one fee.  Wristband hours are Friday 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday Noon to 4:00 p.m.

This year the entertainment we are presenting is better than ever.  We open the festival on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with the Carole Ferrara Quintet.

We are proud to welcome Daryl Stuermer from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.  Daryl grew up on the south side of Milwaukee Wisconsin where he began playing guitar at age 11.  Early pop and rock influences such as Elvis Presley, The Ventures and later on The Beatles, were instrumental in shaping his musical style and direction.  In December 1977, Daryl met with Genesis member Mike Rutherford in New York City to audition for the role of guitarist/bassist for the upcoming "And Then There Were Three" tour.  This began a 20-year relationship with Genesis that Phil Collins defined as a "permanent-temporary-part-time member."  Join us on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and enjoy the sounds of Daryl Stuermer.  Presented by the Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center and the City of Sheboygan Tourism Division.

Saturday's activities begin with an arts and crafts show along the South Pier Promenade from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Vendors and artists from Sheboygan and the surrounding area are showcasing and selling their items throughout the day.

While you're pursuing the arts and crafts show, enjoy the music of
Michael "Big Dog" Murphy and the MOB (Men Of Blues) from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Whether offering a fast, sizzling, deep-fried, foot stompin' song, or, as he calls'em, a "buckle polishin'" slow blues number, his style keeps you wanting to hear more and more.

His fans lament that they find themselves having to leave the show when it’s over, still wanting more. But, one thing they all agree on. They always leave his performances feeling much better than when they came in. As Bruce Pratt, an East coast event promoter puts it, “Dog gives you a twenty dollar show for a two dollar ticket!”

Saturday evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. we are pleased to welcome The Groove Hogs.  A band of nine who are blazing a trail through the "what's hot, what's not" music scene of the 21st century.  In a market inundated with cookie cutter, wanna-be, bands, The Groove Hogs have retained artistic integrity and melded the sum of their individual influences into something that is truly fresh and exciting.  The Hogs have created a sound that is uniquely their own.

The fun continues on Sunday with the 23rd annual Kettle Moraine Corvette Club Custom Car Show.  We've convinced the Club to move their annual event to the South Pier, and we invite you to join us.  View more than 25 classes of America's finest automobiles.

The show is open to the public, and cars will be on display rain or shine from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Click here to view our special weekend packages.  Come and join for the weekend and sooth your spirit on Sheboygan's Shores!

We gratefully thank and appreciate our Sponsors:  Miller Beverages, Blue Harbor Resort & Conference Center, Spike's Bar and Grill, and the Harbor Centre Business Improvement District.
